Fairlands Communities Week 2013
Local community group My Cheddar worked with Fairlands Middle School‘s Year 5 children as part of the school’s activities for the 2013 Communities Week.
Every year the whole school runs extra-curricular activities to strengthen links with the community and expand the pupils’ horizons in a fun way.
My Cheddar are working on a number of projects around the village, one of which involves improvements to the village centre, and the Year 5 kids have made a wonderful contribution to this work.
My Cheddar’s Bill Storer and Cheddar artist Katrina Atkinson have worked with the children to brighten up the shopfront of the empty former butcher’s shop opposite The Bath Arms, using boards supplied by Westwood Interiors. It now looks like a traditional sweetshop selling all sorts of Cheddar related goodies.
Unfortunately this shop has been empty for a while, and the hope is that whilst the project will undoubtedly enhance the area, it will hopefully also raise awareness of these empty premises and help find a new use soon.
